AcroAges 6+ (1 hour class)
This is a specialized art of tumbling, contortion and balancing, requiring agility and skillful control of the body. Our studio also incorporates dance. Acro provides a rich range of experiences in which children learn to confidently perform stunts. Dedication and active participation by the student is likely to form a positive sense of self-reliance in demanding physical situations. Emphasis will be on developing powerful muscles, good flexibility and balance. To fly through the air unassisted and unencumbered by apparatus is one of the most thrilling of human experiences. Our goal is to make that happen for our students in a healthy and safe environment. |
BalletAges 6+ (1 or 1.5 hour class)
Graded levels of ballet starting at the age of 6. Ballet is very technical with emphasis on placement, balance, alignment, body awareness, technique, strength, flexibility, focus, and ballet vocabulary. This is a strict program. Students enrolled in this program are urged to take at least two classes a week for proper improvement. This class is highly recommended for anyone considering being a serious dancer. Pointe work will be added upon the discretion of the teacher. |
Intro Classes
COMBINATION CLASSES - 3 years old through 1st grade (1 hour class-prior dance experience not required)
Intro to Dance I - Students must be 3 years old by December 31st. A one-hour class specifically designed for our youngest dancers. The focus is on very basic creative movement skills as well as basic ballet technique. Emphasis is placed on listening skills, music awareness, imagination and gross motor skills while working two by two and in groups. Students will learn the proper names for the skills they are being taught. Basic skills for tap and acro are also incorporated into the class. Intro to Dance II - Students must be 4 years old by December 31st. This one-hour class is the next step in our dance program that will build upon the skills learned in Intro II. Intro to Dance K - Students must be enrolled in Kindergarten in September of the current school year and the age of 5 by December 31st. This one-hour class is the continuation of previous pre-school classes. Basic Jazz/Tap - Students must be enrolled in 1st grade in September of the current school year. This one-hour class is a continuation of Intro III with emphasis placed on memory retention and the ability to perform in a group without watching others. |
Hip HopAges 7+ (1 hour class)
The most popular and fastest growing class at our studio, without a doubt, is Hip Hop. We use age appropriate hip hop and dance pop music. Hip hop is both a music genre and a cultural movement developed in New York City starting in the 1970s. Since first emerging, hip hop has grown to encompass an entire lifestyle that consistently incorporates diverse elements of ethnicity, technology, art and urban life. |
JazzAges 7+ (1 hour class)
Jazz pushes the student to connect emotionally to music and movement in an upbeat environment. While continuing to work on technique and flexibility, jazz encompasses many styles including traditional jazz, and contemporary jazz. Students will also begin to learn the proper techniques of jumps and turns. Jazz is an extremely popular and fun dance class of today, suitable for all ages and levels. Be it a funky street jazz routine, a contemporary style, or an upbeat high energy pop dance, you will learn a fusion of just about everything you see on music videos. Be warned: Lots of energy in this class! |
Lyrical/ContemporaryAges 7+ (1 hour class)
Lyrical for many dancers and choreographers, is an ideal vehicle for expressing emotions through movement. It is a combination of intricate, highly technical, and naturalistic moves. Lyrical dance is often choreographed to a song about freedom, of releasing a sad emotion, or of overcoming obstacles, but can be choreographed to any human emotion-related song. Depending on the given song and choreography, a lyrical piece may or may not be graceful, but will always be expressive and unpredictable, particularly in comparison to ballet and other jazz pieces which may have a more presentational quality. Lyrical is based around choreography and the interpretation of the music. Routines are based around feeling and emotion and, though technique is crucial, spirit generally tells where the dance will go. |
TapAges 7+ (1 hour class)
Tap is regarded as a true American dance form that has been passed down from generation to generation. Our tap class includes traditional styles and rhythm tap. Beginner classes are available starting at age 7. Musicality, clarity, rhythm, and tempo are a few of the basic principles that will be focused on in this level. Intermediate levels are for the students who have accomplished those skills and should be capable of using the finer muscles of the body and executing these principles within combinations and routines. In this class we will work on the control of the feet to produce accenting, shading and clusters of sounds. These students are introduced to varied tempos and musical arrangements with progressive rhythm sequences and patterns. Advanced levels are for those who have achieved execution, accenting and shading control, and rhythmic patterns. Advanced students will study movements done in acapella (without music). Tap at this level becomes an all over body understanding, adding hands, arms and head movements to make steps more intricate. |
