Tap (rhythm, traditional)
Ages 7+ (1 hour class)
Tap is regarded as a true American dance form that has been passed down from generation to generation. Our tap class includes traditional styles, as seen in the Broadway hit “42nd Street”, and rhythm tap, as seen in “Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk” and “Stomp”.
Beginner classes are available starting at age 7. Musicality, clarity, rhythm, and tempo are a few of the basic principles that will be focused on in this level.
Intermediate levels are for the students who have accomplished those skills and should be capable of using the finer muscles of the body and executing these principles within combinations and routines. In this class we will work on the control of the feet to produce accenting, shading and clusters of sounds. These students are introduced to varied tempos and musical arrangements with progressive rhythm sequences and patterns.
Advanced levels are for those who have achieved execution, accenting and shading control, and rhythmic patterns. Advanced students will study movements done in a capella (without music). Tap at this level becomes an all over body understanding, adding hands, arms and head movements to make steps more intricate.
